Bio
Catherine Black is an accomplished actress, and visual artist.
Catherine Black grew up in Northern Ontario, Canada. She made her stage debut at the age of 16 as Juliet in the classic production of Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet”. Once bitten by the acting bug, Catherine would go on to star in several Dora Award winning Theater productions including “Walls of Africa”, “Crimes”, and “The Human Zoo”. On the big screen, Catherine has acted opposite Christian Bale in “American Psycho”, and has worked with director Amy Heckerling in “Loser”. Catherine has also worked extensively on the small screen, including co-starring in the ABC/Disney MOW “Mr. Headmistress”. Select television credits include, a recurring role on “Show Me Yours”, “I Love a Mummy” for BBC/YTV, “Blue Murder”, “In a Heartbeat” (Disney/Family) and a recurring role on “Odyssey 5” for Showtime. However, the starring role in the docu-drama, “Letters to a Street Child” is among one of her favorite performances.
Catherine just finished filming the feature film “The Forlorn” performing a leading role, opposite Crispin Glover. The film is based on the real events of the 1846 Donner Party tragedy. Catherine also stars in “Dawgs Playing Poker”; an absurd feature length comedy about a crime of opportunity. “Dawgs Playing Poker” will have its world debut this June at Seattle’s True Independent Film Festival.
Catherine is also a classically trained singer who studied at the prestigious Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto. She is a mezzo-soprano and can sing in several languages. Catherine also studied classical painting, which she considers a precious, creative form of expression. She just finished exhibiting her current collection; Benevolence, at The Engine Gallery In Toronto. Catherine’s paintings have been exhibited for several years in Toronto throughout Canada and Internationally. She has also been commissioned by a Cuban missionary Orphanage to visually represent their children. Currently Catherine is living in the Los Angeles area preparing oil paintings for her next art exhibit for the Los Angeles and International markets while continuing to pursue her Hollywood acting career debut.
